Why do you think Max is convinced he does not have a brain? Is his belief of himself as a “butthead” correct?

I don't think that Max is really a butthead. He just says that beacause he is growing so fast that he proves himself as a butthead. Also he thinks he is a butthead beacause Freak is such a brain master and smart which makes him feel like a butthead even more.
I think Max is a butthead, he is not very smart, for instance on page one, the first line says "I never had a brain 'till freak showed up. Also he uses alot of improper grammer when telling the story.
Max is a butthead, because on page 4 it says that " I am a butthead, because like i said, i never had a brain until Freak moved down the street".That is why max is a butthead in my opinion.
I think that Max isn't a butthead. He doen't say stupid thing he is not dumb. On page 10 he says we don't say "hey American where's the closest seven eleven." thats not a dumd statement.

I think Max is a butthead beacuase on page 4 Max said that he was a butthead because he said i never had a brain until Freak came along.Also he moved down the street before he got a brain.He also said when Freak came he will borrow his brain until he could get one.

Yes Max beliefs he's a butthead because on pg.4 he says "Well, I was a butthead, because like I said, I never had a brain until freak moved down the street." Max called himself a butthead so he thinks he is.

I thik that it is not correct that Max is not correct because on page 11 Max helped Freak get his "bird thing" or as Freak says ornithopter that shows that Max has a kind heart and knows the right thing to do.

Max is not a butthead because he said " I never had a brain until Freak came along and let me borrow his for a while, andthat's the truth, the whole truth" He said that on page 1. It was the first sentence.

I don't think Max is a butthead because on page on page 11 Freak let Max get his "American Flyer" that was stuck in the tree. I think Max has a has brain because he made up some games in preschool and he is a sweet.

I think Max is convinced he doesn't have a brain because when Freak said: "All mechanical objects require periodic maintenance. We'll schedule installation of a new propulsion unit as soon as the Fair Gwen Of Air gets a replacement," Max had no idea what he was talking about but he just said "That's Cool." bottom of page 13. His belief of being a butthead is corrct because on page 7 he calls himself a butthead because he's attached to a mother of someone he knows and he knows that's wrong.

I don't think Max is a butthead because when people say the word butthead I usually think of someoone whoo dosen't think. The reason I don't think Max is a butthead is because he can atleast see the obvious like when Grim kept on repeating he is getting to look so much like him.

I think he's convinsed he's a butthead because maby teacher's would give him bad grades because he didn't try hard enough. It 's said that he kicked teacher proply that made his teacher not like him and he might not be a good student.

I think Max is not a butthead even though he says he is, because Max dosen't know why Freak is calling him earthling which if I was Max I would wonder about that to if Freak called me earthling. I would be confused, but I will say freak so much smarter than Max.

I think Max is convinsced that he doesn't have a brain because he isn't that smart and people think he isn't smart. Causing him to have the feeling that he is a butthead because one reasen his old nickname was kicker. They gave him the the nickname because he would punch and kick people so it makes a reader feel that he is probebly not smart. PD #2

Max is convinced he is a butthead because he isn't the smartest kid. He says that when Freak moved down the street, he made him smarter and "gave him a brain." Also, he says he's a butthead because when Gram says the expression "little pictures have big ears" he takes it seriously and goes to cheak in the mirror if his ears are big. I think his belief that he's a butthead is wrong because everyone thinks differently and learns at different paces.

I think Max is convinced that he has no brain because,Grim and Gram said that he is gitting more and more like Him. Max isn't a buthead and I know that because if he was then that would most likely mean he wouldn't no how to do anything. I know he can do some things because he talked to Freak and he could pull him in the wagan
Max is a butthead because he thinks he has no brain until he mets freak and later in the book he sounds like he doesn't no a lot by the why he talks and he doesn't no what freak is talking about when he says ornithopter.

Max is not a butthead. I say this for he is able to do things that other people can't. For example Max was able to get freak's ornithopter out of a tree when freak couldn't. It's not his fault that he trips over a lot. He's just not used to his body because he's growing too fast.

I think that Max is convinced he doesn't have a brain because Freak is smart and though Max is kind of smart he is nothing compared to Freak, who has a great vocabulary, which makes max feel dumb. He is not a butthead because he knows how to approach kids like Freak and has kind of made friends with Freak already.
Max is convinced that he does not have a brain because in the first paragraph on the first page they said that he didn't have a brain until Freak let him borrow it for a while. I also found that on page 4 he called Freak's mother the Fair Gwen of Air, later he says that only a falling-down goon would think that that is her real name. I think that if he thinks that he is a butthead then he is wrong because a not so bright person would think that that is Freak's mother's name.

I think that max has a great brain. He just does't know how to use it becauseon on the first page Max said, "Exceped I had a way of saying things with my fists and my feet." That proves that instead of using his brain he uses his fists and feet instead. He also says in the book"I never had a brain until freak came and let me barrowhis," tht also proves that he felt like a butthead because freak is so smart.(i agree with Mickey)

My back up is:
On page 4, he calls himself a 'buthead' because he THINKS that he had no brain until Freak came along and moved down the street. But that may not be true in other peoples eyes, other people may think he's smart. He has convinced himself that he is a 'buthead.'
