1. What type of author craft did Rodman Philbrick use to describe the conflict of the story: When Max's Dad, KILLER KANE comes back for Max in the basement? Give examples from the text.

2. Let us play pretend for a moment...pretend that Freak was a student in our school...would you want Freak as your friend? Why or why not?

3. Would you treat Kevin "Freak" differently than your other classmates? BE HONEST.

2. I would want Freak in my school because I would play with him because no one else would, and it does not matter what you look like it matters about your inside.

3. No I would not treat him differant than others because he is the same as the other kids in the school, al because he is small does not mean he can't be your friend.

1.One of the authur craft he used was a simile on page #102 it says its like im looking at old picture of my self. Another craft is hyboble like when his dad came in the basement it was one whole chaper of it. Also he put out suspence he would not tell that it was his father.

2.) I would want him as a friend because he is very friendly and could help you understand certain concepts and anything else you couldn't understand.

3.) I think that I wouldn't treat him the same as someone else. Instead I would probably be a little more catious when I was around him because I wouldn't want to hurt him because of his small body. I would be friendly and kind to him though.

1.The author craft that Rodman Philbrick used to discribe the conflict of the story was when Max said it was cold in the down under which never realy happens, and it felt like someone fight of been breathing. 2. Maybe. Maybe because he would be funny at times, also somtimes if he went on my shoulders pretending that I was his horse I would probably get imbaresed. 3. No. Because just since he has a growth defect and he is smaller than any one else dosen't mean that people should treat him diffrently. He is a pretty normal person if you take away his birth defect.

1.The author used a simile on page #102 the father says its like i'm looking at an old picture of my self.

2. I would want Freak in my school because I would play with him and if I needed help with my homework I could ask him to help me.

3. No I would not treat him different because he small. I would treat him just like how I would treat anbody else.

Question 1: I would want to be freaks freind because thers not really anything wrong with him its not that bad that freak has birth defect beacuese freak is a very nice and smart inside its just his outside that makes him look wierd.

Question 2:I would not treat him diffrently because he is the same as anyone else in the school he is just shorter and smaller than the other kids in school but some kids might laugh at freak and tease him beacause he is different.

Question 3: The author craft that he used was a methophor because he said i think i hear the wind but it is someone breathing.

1. One of the author craft he uses is a simile on pg. 102 he uses, "When I look at you it looks like I'm looking at an old picture of myself." He also put a cliffhanger at the end of the chapter, because he didn't tell who the person that went in Max's room was.
2. Yes, I'd like him to be my friend, because he's very friendy and if you didn't understand somehing he would help you understand it better so you could finish that thing he tought you easyer.
3. No, I'd not be mean to him because I think small poeple, I think they're cool because hey can do differnt things then regular sized people can.c.m.#11

1.)The on author craft that Rodman Philbrick used to describe the main conflict is characterization when they say," He's got these big eyebrows that make it hard to see his eyes and that's fine, I don't see them, looking at those eyes is asking to have a bad dream." another craft is on page 99 it is the climax of the story so far.

2.)Yes I would like to have Freak as my friend because he seems nice and if you need help with something he would help you but not tell you the answer. He would make you figure out the answer on your own. He is somebody who is not afraid to be differnt and I like that because it shows character.

3.) No I would not treat Freak differently than my other classmates because person is a person and the outside doesn't matter just the inside. Also the golden rule is treat others how you would like to be treated and I know I wouldn't want to be left out.

1.The author used a cliffhanger at the end of chapter 15. It works because it sets up suspense and it makes the reader want to keep reading. The author uses 1 similie and 1 metaphor for Max's father, "darker than night", and "as big as the room." These are also hyperbole. Also when Max says that it is cold in the down under and it never is cold in the "down under" it is a sign, like foreshadowing, that something is wrong. Also, when the author does use the phrases that someone "darker than night, big as the room," puts a dark hand over his face, it almost sounds like a larger metaphor comparing the father to darkness itself.

2.I agree with ct#21. I would like to have Freak as a friend. He has a good imagination and might help me in school because he's so smart.

3. I wouldn't treat him differently. But I might worry about some things that I don't worry about with other friends. Like, I would be worried that he might fall, since he's on crutches. Also it would be harder for him to play recess activities with the other kids. I would try to find a way to involve him in the game I'm playing. I don't have to try to do this with my other friends, so this is different.

Some author craft that Rodman Philbrick used was suspense on p. 98 and personification on p. 99 when Max thought that his heart stopped beating and was waiting for the next thing to happen. Also, he used second person narritive on p.100 and dialouge on p.101. I think that if I was meeting Freak for the first time I probably would have to observe him first before I decided if I wanted him as a friend. After awhile I would decide whether or not I wanted him as a friend which would probably be yes. That is because he seems funny, has a vivid imagination and is thoughtful. Yes I would treat him very different because he is very smart and I am smart so I could talk to him using a larger vocabulary.

3. I might treat him a little bit differently. I would treat him with a little more respect. I would because he isn't afraid of getting a transplant. He also seems pretty cool.

2. I think I woud because he is cool, plus he isn't afraid of anything. He is someone I could trust as a friend and also to keep a secret with.

1. He used red flag when he said "all of a sudden he felt cold. Like ht20 said he also used a simile on page 102: " It's like looking at an old picture of myself.

1) The type of author craft Rodman Philbrick used to describe the conflict of the story: when Max's dad, KILLER KANE comes back for Max in the basement is description of the room and internal dialogue saying "I think I hear the wind right there in the room. Except it's not the wind. Someone breathing. Someone who rises up darker than night, as big as the room, and puts a giant hand on my face and presses down." page 98. This ais an example of internal dialogue.

2) If Freak were a student in our school, I would want him to be my friend, because he's a really smart kid, and I could learn a lot from him, and he'd be a good classmate for learning from.

3)No, I would not treat Freak differently than my other classmates because my friend, Katherine, gets teased because she's really short, and I don't like when people tease her, so I wouldn't tease him or treat him differently.

1. I agrre with ht#20 he did use hperbole he would not tell who the person was until he finally made HIM say a clue that was "I've come back" which gave it all away, but still he never told you until the end of the chapter.

2. I would like if Freak was a student at SCOTLAND ELEMANTRY SCHOOL beacause a. I always try to meet new students (e.g. Callen I really got to know him a little) b. Once I met Freak Iwould probaly like him beacause if you really think about it Freak is really cool if you get to know him. Just like Max has and WHAM! Max likes Freak.

3. No I would not treat any different I would only treat him different because he is a genius. I mean really who would be mean to a Genius like him he's just a normal human being he just has a little problame that's all.

1. The description that Rodman Philbrick used to describe when Killer Kane went to find Max in the basment was that he grabed Max on the face and says "Dont say a word boy, not a sound." Max tried to move, try to shrink himself back into the bed, but th hand follows him down. He was scared.

2. I don't think that I would want him to be my friend because he always says big words that I don't understand, and he brings Max on alot of quests, and it doesn't seem like too much fun. I'd probobly hang out with him sometimes, but I wouldn't want to be real friends with him.

3. OF COURCE NOT! I would never treat anyone differently just because they look different than me, or anyone else.

Question 1: Rodman Phillbrick used suspens because when you hear there was a cold breeze you would think a window was open. Also he used good discription and tells there's a furness and it's never cold down there and that helps me know what the down under looks like.
Question 2: I would like Freak as my friend because one I would like to have a friend that can keep himself going and not be depressed about having a disabilaty. He doesn't care that he has a disabilaty and I admire that.
Question 3: I know that if you have a dissabilaty like Freak where you understand everything and are not L.D. the last thing on earth you would want was for people to treat you diffrent. I sure wouldn't want people treating me diffrent. So me personaly I would try not to treat him diffrent but I propaly would act a little nicer to him because there are people (not in are grade) that would make fun of Freak.

2. Yes, I would ask him to be my friend because he's really nice and a lot of people get judge by the way they look and that doesn't mader to me. He is a nice, caring and smart person with a great imaganition.

3.Maybe,Idon't knowbecause he has couthes so people are going to treat him differly because of that. If he thinks he is so cool then NO.

2. I would want freak to be in my school because we could all chant "Freak the mighty." It really does not matter if you have legs that don't move like freak. He would be my friend.

3. No! Just because he can't move his legs without legs braces it is no reson to make fun of freak. Even though he has a problem with the way he grows he is still a good friend and nice kid.

1. One of the author craft is a simile on page(102)"Well would you look at that it like i am looking at a a image of my self. He also used a hyboble saying "his dad took up the whole room." He also put suspence by making it seem like how would be in max's room on christmas eve.

The type of author craft that Rodman Philbrick used to describe the conflict of the story where it says, "When Max's Dad, KILLER KANE comes back for Max in the basement. On page 99, chapter 15, Rodman Philbrick put a cliffanger in at the very end and during the conflict he used characterization when the author describes the dad, he shows the dad's appearence, displays the dad's actions, lets the dad speak, gets the reaction of Max, and tells Max's thoughts about this.

2. I would want Freak as my friend because it seems to be that Freak uses imagination and is generous. Also, because Freak is so smart and talented with that qualitie, and I think I could learn a lot from Freak.

3. No, I wouldn't treat Freak differently from my other classmates because that's not the kind of person I think I am. I don't think that it is right at all to treat someone badly because let's say you had a disibility or didn't fit in. How would that make you feel if every one was making fun of you because of that? I know I sure wouldn't feel good about myself after that. So that is why I would never misstreat someone if it wasn't the right thing to do.

***
Question 2.
I would definetly be friends with Freak.Even though he's a boy and I'm a girl, it doesn't mean we can't be friends, right?I would want to be friends with him because even though his is small, he's got the most detailed imagination and is so kind, smart, and caring it would be a joy being around him.

Question 3.
I would treat Freak the same because even though he's small,it doesn't mean he's weird.

1. The type of author craft that Rodman Philbrick used when “Killer Kane” went to see Max was one of them was a wise saying on page 102 that was “You really are a chip off the old block, you know that?” Usually wise sayings come from an older person and here it is coming from an older person and that person is “Killer Kane.”

2. If Freak was a student at our school I would like to be friends with Freak because Freak is a very friendly person. Also, another reason is because Freak is smart I say that he is smart I say that because if another friend of mine or me needed a little help with something then I could relay on him.

3. I would not treat Freak different because he is just a normal kid. Also, it doesn’t matter if a friend might be taller or shorter than you or older or younger than you. It also, doesn’t matter if they do or don’t have a disability. Like the saying don’t judge a book by its cover that is the same as a person you don’t judge them by their outside you judge them by how they act to other people. So Tony D. and his group should not judge Freak by how short he is they should talk with Freak and if they don’t like him they don’t have to be his friend. If Tony D. and his group decided not to be Freak’s friend then they shouldn’t go and start bulling him they should just leave him alone.

#1: (4th Paragraph pg.98-pg.114)
Their has been alot of dialoge like on pg.108 when Iggy is talking to Killer Kane about the person who lives where they're staying. Also there is alot of second person narrative.
#2: I agree with HT#20 because Kevin's just like us . I would like him to be my friend because I could learn alot from him.
#3: I agree with HT#20 because it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside. But whats on the inside. Also freaks just like us accept alot smaller, and smarter.

3 no because i am not popular and i dont want to be Freak is weird is a "kid" he pertends there are dragons and somtimes i do that

1.The author craft that Rodman Philbrick uses is, he uses suspense by you thinking, could Killer Kane really be a killer? Is he innocent or guilty? A bunch of questions rush to your mind. Another author craft that he uses is similes. For example on page 102 it says,"Quiet as a mouse,". Another author craft that he uses is a cliffhanger at the end of chapter 15 when you first find Killer Kane in the basement.

2.I may want him as a friend. It really depends on how his actions are in response. If he's obnoxious, I would probably not. If not, I will.

3.Not likely. I would treat him the same except when he needs help. Then I wouldn't pay attention to anyone else (except the teachers).

1. Simile and exageration because it says " He's as big as the room".
It's exagerating because you can't be as big as a room like a basment. It's a simile because it says Hes as big as the room.

2. I would want Freak's friend because he seems interesting. He also knows fun things to do like go on quests to slay dragons and fools. Things would be an adventure.

3. I wouldn't treat Freak diferently because he's a human being just like us. So we should treat people differently.

He also used dialague that made it kindof creepy. He sayed " Don't say a word boy not a sound, and I came back like I promist. He also used a cliffhanger at the end of chapter 15 because we didn't know what Killer Kane was going to do to Max.
